The world of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, also known as Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken, is getting a new anime spin-off. Called That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Clayman's Revenge, the series will move Demon Lord Clayman into the spotlight and tell the story from his point of view.
The spin-off is scheduled to premiere in April 2027. It will explore a different side of the franchise by focusing on a character whom fans know as one of Rimuru Tempest's major enemies. Instead of simply revisiting events viewers have already seen, the story gives Clayman a second chance to face his fate, rethink his decisions, and possibly change how history unfolds.
Clayman's Revenge is based on the manga spin-off written by Fuse and illustrated by Wataru Kajika. The story begins after Clayman's defeat, when he suddenly finds himself sent back to an earlier point in his life. Because he remembers what is waiting for him, he sets out to avoid the mistakes that caused his downfall. The premise brings together political scheming, careful strategy, fantasy action, and a closer look at an antagonist who may be more complicated than he first appeared.
There will also be more to watch beyond the spin-off. The main That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime anime is expected to return in July 2027. That means fans should have two connected releases to look forward to in the same year, with Clayman's story arriving in April and the main series continuing during the summer anime season.
The franchise began as a web novel written by Fuse and published online from 2013 to 2016. A professionally edited light novel edition followed in 2014, with illustrations by Mitz Vah. The 23rd volume arrived in November 2025 and brought the long-running main light novel series to a close.
Since then, the story has grown into a large multimedia franchise with light novels, manga adaptations, spin-off comics, television anime, original animation projects, feature films, video games, and merchandise. More than 56 million copies of the books and manga are in circulation, making the series one of the most successful modern isekai franchises.
Animation studio 8-Bit has handled the main television adaptation. Its work helped bring the franchise's bright fantasy world and extensive cast to life, along with its unusual blend of comedy, diplomacy, nation-building, and large-scale battles. More information about Clayman's Revenge, including the production staff, voice cast, episode count, and international streaming availability, should be announced as the April 2027 premiere gets closer.
The original story follows Satoru Mikami, a 37-year-old office worker whose otherwise ordinary life ends after he is fatally stabbed. During his final moments, he hears a mysterious voice granting him abilities based on his last thoughts. He then wakes up in another world, not as a legendary warrior or powerful wizard, but as what appears to be an unremarkable slime.
Satoru soon learns that his modest new form is far more powerful than it looks. After meeting and befriending the sealed dragon Veldora, he is given the name Rimuru Tempest. Rimuru then begins forming relationships with monsters, humans, and other supernatural beings while working to build a nation where different species can live alongside one another.
What begins as a playful reincarnation adventure eventually grows into a broader story about leadership, international politics, warfare, trade, alliances, and the responsibility that comes with enormous power. The Clayman spin-off should be especially interesting for viewers who want to spend more time with the franchise's morally complicated villains and see its political conflicts from somewhere outside Rimuru's immediate perspective.
