The second season of YAIBA, the latest anime adaptation of the comedy-adventure manga by Detective Conan creator Gosho Aoyama, officially has a release date. The series will return with new episodes on January 9, 2027.
The current adaptation premiered in April 2025, and its first season ran for 24 episodes. The anime is produced by Wit Studio, the studio behind the first three seasons of Attack on Titan and the first season of Vinland Saga. The team is known for its fluid action scenes and detailed animation, so viewers can expect the second season to feature more elaborate sword fights and supernatural confrontations.
Gosho Aoyama's original YAIBA manga was serialized from 1988 to 1993 and collected across 24 volumes. Before the current adaptation, the manga was turned into a 52-episode anime series that aired from 1993 to 1994. The new version brings the story's lively blend of comedy, fantasy, martial arts, and adventure to a new generation while staying connected to the spirit of the original work.
The story centers on Yaiba Kurogane, a spirited young samurai who grows up training in the jungle with his father. When an unexpected series of events takes him to Japan, Yaiba finds himself trying to adapt to a completely unfamiliar way of life. It does not take long for his new surroundings to pull him into ridiculous rivalries, dangerous fights, and encounters with demons and other supernatural enemies.
Yaiba's main goal is to become a true samurai. He is often far more confident than his experience justifies, which leads to plenty of funny situations. Still, his courage, determination, and loyalty make him an easy hero to root for. As the threats become more serious, he must rely on his training, his friends, and his natural fighting instincts to make it through each challenge.
Season 2 is expected to pick up directly after the events of the 24-episode first season and continue Yaiba's journey. Details about the number of episodes, international streaming availability, and the full release schedule have not yet been announced.
