The college comedy anime Grand Blue Dreaming is officially returning for a fourth season. The news came shortly after the Season 3 finale, confirming that Iori Kitahara and the rest of the Peek a Boo diving club will be back for more chaotic adventures.
So far, the production committee has only confirmed the renewal. There is no release date or episode count yet, and details about the production studio, staff, and returning cast have not been shared. A teaser trailer and key visual will likely arrive once promotion for the new season gets underway.
The anime is adapted from the manga written by Kenji Inoue and illustrated by Kimitake Yoshioka. The series has been running in Kodansha's Good! Afternoon magazine since April 2014. Over the years, it has developed a loyal following with its mix of college life, close friendships, romantic misunderstandings, diving, and wildly exaggerated comedy.
The television anime first premiered in July 2018. Zero-G produced the first season, while the second season was made by Zero-G in cooperation with Liber. Zero-G and Saber Works handled production for the third season. Each of the first three seasons has 12 episodes, so Season 4 could follow the same format, although its episode count has not been confirmed.
After graduating from high school, Iori Kitahara enrolls at a university in the coastal town of Izu. He plans to enjoy a relaxed student life while staying at his uncle's home, but things do not go as expected. The building also contains a diving shop and acts as a gathering place for a lively university diving club. Before long, Iori is dragged into a world filled with underwater exploration, outrageous parties, awkward misunderstandings, and friendships he never saw coming.
Although diving is a major part of the story, Grand Blue Dreaming is mostly known for its outrageous humor and eccentric cast. The series often jumps from beautiful underwater scenes to ridiculous college antics, but it also makes time for more heartfelt moments involving friendship, personal growth, and facing one's fears. Season 4 is expected to pick up where the manga adaptation left off, though the specific story arcs have not yet been announced.
More information about the fourth season, including its premiere window and where it will be available to stream, should be shared in future announcements.
