From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman is officially returning for a third season. The anime's official website confirmed that production has been approved. For now, there is no release date, teaser trailer, promotional image, or other production information.
Animation studios Hayabusa Film and Passione produce the fantasy series. The anime is adapted from the light novel series of the same name, which follows a talented swordsman who has no idea just how remarkable his abilities really are.
The first season aired between April and June 2025, followed by the second season from July to September 2026. Both seasons have 12 episodes. The third season will take the story beyond the 24 episodes released so far, though its episode count has not been confirmed.
At the center of the story is Beryl, a humble, middle-aged sword instructor who runs a small dojo in the countryside. He once dreamed of reaching the highest levels of swordsmanship, but those ambitions faded over time, and he became content with a quiet life spent teaching others. Beryl sees himself as a man of limited talent, but that view is far from accurate. His skill, experience, and natural instincts make him an exceptional swordsman who stands well above most fighters.
Beryl's peaceful routine is turned upside down when he is recommended for a prestigious role as a special instructor for an order of knights. He must leave his familiar rural home and move to the city, where he finds himself surrounded by elite warriors, political duties, and opponents far more dangerous than those he faced in the countryside.
The position also brings Beryl back into contact with several former students who have since become impressive fighters themselves. They readily credit him as the master who helped shape their abilities, yet Beryl still struggles to recognize his own strength and the impact he has had on their lives. That gap between how others see him and how he sees himself is a major part of the series' appeal. It allows the story to mix fantasy action and humor with themes of mentorship and a man learning to understand his worth later in life.
Season 3 will likely continue following Beryl as he trains skilled knights, develops closer bonds with his former pupils, and faces enemies who pose an even greater threat. Details about the premiere window, returning staff, cast, and streaming availability have not yet been shared and are expected to be announced later.
