"Muscle Man" Manga-Inspired Anime Powers Through to Third Season

The manga "Muscle Man" will continue to be adapted for the screen. Currently, the third season of the anime series "Muscle Man: Origin of the Perfect Superhuman" (Kinnikuman: Kanpeki Chоujin Shiso-hen) is underway. However, the exact return date of the series isn't known yet.

The anime will adapt the "Origin of the Perfect Superhuman" arc (volumes 38-60 of the manga) from the original manga. The series is being produced by the studio Production I.G, known for their work on "Volleyball!". The first season of the show was released last year, and the second one this year.

Once upon a time, the superhero Kinnikuman (Suguru Kinniku) discovers that he is the prince of the planet Kinniku - the birthplace of the greatest superheroes in the universe. However, he will have to prove that he is worthy of the throne. To do this, Suguru must participate in wrestling competitions and defeat other contenders.

The original comedic action manga was created by the author duo Yudetamago and was published in the Weekly Shounen Jump from 1979 to 1987. In 2011, the manga series resumed in the online magazine ShuuPlay News. To date, the chapters of the story have been collected into 88 volumes. The manga has a sequel and several spin-offs. As of July 2021, the series has sold over 77 million copies.

The first anime series based on the manga, created by Toei Animation (known for "One Piece"), consisted of 137 episodes and aired from April 1983 to October 1986. Since then, the franchise has been expanded with numerous anime of various formats.
