The second part of Ace of Diamond Act II Season 2 has an official premiere date. The anime will return on October 11, according to an announcement posted on the series' official website.
The sports anime follows Eijun Sawamura, an ambitious high school pitcher competing to become the ace of Seido High School, home to one of Japan's top baseball programs. The story goes beyond what happens during games, spending plenty of time on training, rivalries within the team, personal setbacks, and the pressure young athletes face while fighting for a spot in the starting lineup.
The anime is adapted from the baseball manga by Yuji Terajima. Ace of Diamond Act II ran in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine before ending in October 2022. The completed sequel manga was collected across 34 volumes.
Act II picks up directly after the original manga, with Sawamura and his teammates taking on greater responsibilities as they prepare for tougher tournaments. Much of the sequel focuses on Sawamura's growth as a pitcher, his ongoing competition with his talented teammates, and Seido's attempt to make its way back to the top level of high school baseball.
Madhouse produced the first season of the Act II anime, which premiered in April 2019. It ran for 52 episodes and concluded in March 2020. Production has since shifted to OLM, a studio known for its experience with long-running television anime.
The first part of Season 2 aired from April to June and included 13 episodes. When the anime returns on October 11 following its broadcast break, viewers will be able to continue Seido's journey through the demanding world of competitive high school baseball.
Before Act II, Terajima's original Ace of Diamond manga also ran in Weekly Shonen Magazine and was collected in 47 volumes. It later received a two-season television anime adaptation with 126 episodes in total, as well as several original video animation episodes.
Thanks to its large cast, careful attention to baseball strategy, and character development that unfolds over time, Ace of Diamond has earned a strong place among sports anime and manga. Anyone new to the series should start with the original anime before watching Act II, since the sequel expects viewers to already know the players, their relationships, the team's internal dynamics, and the results of major tournaments from the earlier story.
