MAPPA to Release Season Two of Sports Anime 'Oblivion Battery' in 2027

Animation studio MAPPA has officially confirmed that a second season of the baseball-themed anime Boukyaku Battery is in production. The continuation is scheduled to premiere in 2027, as announced on the project's official website.

The first season of the series debuted in 2024 and featured 12 episodes. Before that, MAPPA had already produced a short online adaptation of Boukyaku Battery in 2020, which introduced fans to the story’s core premise and characters.

The anime is based on the manga Boukyaku Battery, created by Eko Mikawa. The manga has been serialized since April 2018 on the Shonen Jump+ platform and currently spans 22 volumes. The story’s mix of sports action, emotional drama, and teamwork themes has made it a standout among sports manga.

The plot centers on a prodigious battery - the baseball term for a pitcher and catcher duo - made up of the talented pitcher Haruka Kiyomine and the sharp-minded catcher Kei Kaname, also known as “The General.” In middle school, their combination was so formidable that they crushed the hopes of countless opponents. However, after Kaname loses his memory, both characters end up attending a high school without a notable baseball team. There, they encounter former rivals and disheartened players who once gave up on the sport because of them. Together, they attempt to rekindle their passion for baseball and rebuild what they lost, both as a team and as individuals.

In addition to Boukyaku Battery's return, the baseball anime Diamond no Ace: Act II is also set to resume in spring 2026 after a long hiatus, and recently unveiled a new trailer. With both series coming back around the same time, fans of sports anime have plenty to look forward to in the coming years.
