'One Piece' Sails Back to Cinemas with a New Straw Hat Crew Anime Film

It has been three years since the release of the feature-length anime One Piece Film Red, the fifteenth movie in the long-running series based on Eiichiro Oda’s legendary manga. Premiering in August 2022, the film became a massive box office hit for Toei Animation, earning more than 20 billion yen and breaking multiple records at home and abroad. The film not only dominated the Japanese box office that year but also became one of the most successful anime films of all time, reaffirming the global appeal of the Straw Hat Pirates. Fans have since been eagerly waiting to see what comes next for Luffy and his crew on the big screen.

A brand-new One Piece film is already in development. According to the series’ creator Eiichiro Oda, who shared the news in a special message to fans during the Jump Festa 2026 event, the next project is something he believes will deeply excite long-time followers of the series. Oda encouraged fans to be patient as the team works on the film, noting that progress has been challenging so far, but promising that the latest adventure will be worth the wait. Meanwhile, the current One Piece anime continues to push forward with its story. The final episode of the year is set to air on December 28 before the show takes a short seasonal break. When it returns in the spring, the series will launch into the long-awaited Elbaf Arc, which already has its first official trailer. The Elbaf storyline has been teased for years and will finally explore the legendary land of giants that long-time fans have wanted to see since the early days of the anime. With both the upcoming movie and the new arc on the horizon, it’s an exciting time to be a One Piece fan.
