Box office revenue for the anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle - Akaza Sairai is on the verge of crossing the 30 billion yen milestone in Japan. As of August 31, the project had earned 29.98 billion yen (about $203.6 million). This makes it the third highest-grossing film ever in Japan.
The only two titles ahead of it are also anime: Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, which pulled in 40.75 billion yen, and Studio Ghibli’s timeless classic Spirited Away, with 31.68 billion yen. This highlights not only the popularity of the Demon Slayer franchise but also the dominant role anime continues to play in Japanese cinema.
Akaza Sairai premiered in theaters on July 18 as the first part of the trilogy Infinity Castle, based on the original manga by Koyoharu Gotouge. The studio ufotable is adapting the final chapters of the manga in this three-part film project, giving fans a cinematic conclusion to one of the most influential anime series of the past decade.
For those who enjoy bringing their fandom into daily life, unique collectibles like Demon Slayer mouse pads are also popular ways to celebrate the series beyond the theater experience.
