Fans of Black Clover can rejoice - the fantasy adventure based on Yūki Tabata’s manga is officially returning. The so-called second season of the anime adaptation is set to premiere in 2026, according to a report from Anime News Network.
Tabata’s Black Clover manga began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015 and continued until August 2023, later moving to the quarterly Jump GIGA magazine. Thanks to its strong readership and international fanbase, the manga also remains available in digital form through the MANGA Plus platform.
To date, the series has been collected into 37 volumes, with an impressive circulation surpassing 24 million copies worldwide. Its enduring popularity has made Black Clover one of the standout modern shonen titles of the last decade, beloved for its balance of high-energy battles, heartfelt underdog themes, and richly built magical world.
The franchise has already expanded well beyond the manga. In addition to the long-running anime series, there have been OVA episodes, spin-off manga stories, light novels, and the 2023 feature-length movie Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, an original story that further explored the world’s lore and magic. All of these projects were produced by Studio Pierrot, which is now taking charge of the new season as well.
The first anime season aired from October 2017 to March 2021, spanning 170 episodes that chronicled Asta’s journey from a powerless outcast to a magic knight driven by determination. It built a passionate community of fans thanks to its uplifting message and dynamic fights that blended traditional heroism with fast-paced modern animation.
At the heart of the story is Asta - a determined young boy born in a world where everyone can use magic, except him. Despite this, he dreams of becoming the most powerful mage in the kingdom, the Wizard King. His destiny changes when he obtains a rare five-leaf grimoire that grants him the power of anti-magic, enabling him to defy the natural laws of his world and challenge fate itself.
As anticipation for the upcoming season builds, fans can expect fresh story arcs, deeper character development, and more spectacular battles. With Studio Pierrot’s return and the rich source material of Tabata’s manga still unfolding, the 2026 season is shaping up to be a major comeback for one of the most inspiring fantasy anime of its generation.
