The new anime based on Koyoharu Gotouge's manga is quickly and successfully making its way into home entertainment. In just a few days, the first film of the trilogy "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle" has set several new Japanese box office records. The news was reported by AnimeMojo.com.
The recently released anime achieved impressive results. Over the extended four-day weekend (July 18-21), the project earned 7,315,846,800 yen (around $49.9 million) from 5,164,348 tickets sold. With earnings exceeding 7.3 billion yen, it has already become the second highest-grossing film in the Japanese box office in 2025. The top spot is currently held by "Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet" with 14.54 billion yen.
The "Infinity Castle" trilogy will adapt the remaining chapters of the "Demon Slayer" manga. The first part carries the additional subtitle "Return of Akaza". Rumour has it that the second part will be released in 2027, with the final part slated for 2029.
The original manga was published in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 2016 to 2020 and collected into 23 volumes. The total global circulation of the manga has reached 220 million copies.
The anime adaptation of the story is being handled by the studio ufotable.
The first full-length anime based on the manga, "Demon Slayer: Mugen Train", released in 2020, remains the highest-grossing film in domestic box office history with record total earnings of 40.43 billion yen. "Mugen Train" is also the highest-grossing Japanese film in history, with global earnings amounting to $507.1 million.
