The newest film in the Demon Slayer series has climbed to third place among the highest-grossing movies at the Japanese box office. By the end of last week, the film’s revenue had reached approximately 28.09 billion yen (about $190.4 million). Currently, only two titles surpass it domestically: Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, which still holds the crown with 40.75 billion yen, and Studio Ghibli’s legendary Spirited Away, with 31.68 billion yen.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle - Akaza Sairai (translated as Infinity Castle - The Return of Akaza) debuted in theaters on July 18. This film serves as the first installment of a larger trilogy, Infinity Castle, in which animation powerhouse ufotable will adapt the final chapters of Koyoharu Gotouge’s original Demon Slayer manga.
The project is significant not just because of its box office ranking, but also because it represents the long-anticipated conclusion of one of the most beloved anime and manga franchises in the modern era. Fans around the world continue to celebrate its impact, often showing their passion through collectibles and themed merchandise such as Demon Slayer mouse pads, which let them bring a touch of the series to their everyday setup.
