A third season of the dark fantasy anime Chained Soldier, also known by its Japanese title Mato Seihei no Slave, is officially in the works. The news was announced on August 2, 2026. For now, the producers have not shared a release date, episode count, staff list, or teaser trailer.
The renewal means the anime will continue adapting the popular manga written by Takahiro and illustrated by Yohei Takemura. The manga began running on Shonen Jump+ in January 2019 and now has more than 20 collected volumes. With that much source material available, there is no shortage of story for the anime to cover in future episodes.
The television adaptation's first season premiered in 2024 and was produced by Seven Arcs. The production changed hands for the second season, with Hayabusa Film and Passione taking over the animation. There is no confirmation yet that either studio will return for Season 3. Details about the studios, director, writers, and other members of the creative team will likely come in a future announcement.
Chained Soldier blends supernatural action and dark fantasy with comedy and romance. The story takes place in a world where mysterious gateways to another dimension have started appearing throughout Japan. On the other side is Mato, a dangerous realm filled with monsters called Shuuki.
Mato also contains a strange resource known as the Peach. Anyone who eats one can gain extraordinary abilities, but only women are able to awaken its powers. To defend the human world against attacks by the Shuuki, the authorities create the Demon Defense Force, an elite organization made up of women whose abilities come from the Peaches.
At the center of the story is Yuuki Wakura, a young man who accidentally finds himself in Mato while on his way home. He is rescued by Kyouka Uzen, the powerful and highly capable commander of the Demon Defense Force's Seventh Unit. Kyouka has an unusual ability that lets her increase the strength of living beings by turning them into her servants.
When Kyouka notices Yuuki's hidden potential, she uses her ability on him, transforming him into a remarkably effective partner in battle. However, their arrangement has an unusual condition. Whenever Yuuki completes a task or helps bring down an enemy, Kyouka's power compels her to give him a reward. That condition leads to many of the show's comedic and romantic moments, while the partnership gradually brings the two characters closer together.
Once Yuuki starts working with the Seventh Unit, he meets several other fighters, each with her own Peach-based ability and personality. He soon becomes caught up in battles that grow more dangerous as the story moves forward. Along the way, the series begins to explore where Mato came from, what the Peaches really are, and why powerful humanoid enemies have appeared. Yuuki's search for answers about his missing sister also remains an important part of the larger mystery.
Season 3 will most likely pick up directly after the events of the second season, bringing new opponents, powers, and changes within the Demon Defense Force. The producers have not said which manga arcs the new season will adapt, so specific story details remain unknown.
