The darkly comic thriller The Fable is officially coming back for a second anime season. The production has been confirmed on the project’s official website. There’s no release date yet, but fans can look forward to seeing the original creative team and voice cast from Tezuka Productions return to continue the story.
The anime is based on the hit manga by Katsuhisa Minami. The original run appeared in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine from 2014 to 2019 and was collected into 22 volumes. Following its success, Minami continued the series with two sequels, Fable: The Second Contact and The Fable: The Third Secret, with the latter scheduled to resume publication in March 2025. Together, the series has sold over 28 million copies, showing just how strong its following remains.
The first season, produced by Tezuka Productions, aired from April to September 2025 and ran for 25 episodes. The story has also been adapted into two live-action films, which helped expand its reach and introduce the series to a wider audience outside Japan.
The story centers on Akira Sato, a legendary assassin known for his flawless technique and discipline. One day, his longtime employer gives him an unexpected order: live for an entire year as an ordinary person without killing anyone or causing trouble. His boss needs to stay under the radar, and Akira must do the same. But for a man who has spent his whole life perfecting the craft of assassination, trying to live peacefully among regular people may be the hardest task he’s ever faced.
With its mix of dark humor, tension, and action, The Fable manages to tell a gripping story that still feels grounded and human. Fans of character-driven thrillers can expect more sharp writing, stylish direction, and unpredictable turns as Akira’s story continues in the eagerly awaited second season.
