The animation studio 8-Bit is continuing to adapt the popular light novel series "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime". Fans of the series can look forward to a fourth season and a second movie in the near future. While there's yet no premiere date for the new season, the upcoming movie's release date has been announced, along with a teaser trailer. The movie is set to hit Japanese cinemas on February 27, 2026. The trailer can be viewed here.
The movie is titled "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Tears of the Blue Sea" (Gekijō-ban Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken: Sōkai no Namida-hen). Interestingly, it will feature an original storyline, not based on the light novel series.
The original light novel series, written by Fuse, was published online between 2013 and 2016. Since 2014, "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime" has been available in print format.
The franchise encompasses various light novels, manga, anime, and more. The series has been incredibly successful, with over 56 million copies in circulation.
Earlier, Fuse expressed his intention to conclude the novel series this year.
For those unfamiliar with the series, it follows the life of Mikami Satoru, a 37-year-old solitary construction worker who isn't too pleased with his mundane life. His life takes a drastic turn when he's stabbed in the back by a robber. As he's dying, Mikami hears a strange voice, and subsequently finds his consciousness transferred into a blind slime in another world, reminiscent of a role-playing game. After befriending a dragon named Veldora, the protagonist assumes a new name - Rimuru Tempest, and thus, his incredible adventures in this new form begin.
