The upcoming anime season will bring the long-awaited adaptation of Atelier of Witch Hat. Just a few months before its debut, the series finally revealed its official premiere date - April 6. Initially planned for release in 2025, the production was postponed to ensure outstanding animation quality and fully capture the enchanting world of the manga.
The story follows Coco, a curious girl from a quiet village who has always dreamed of becoming a witch. In this world, however, only those born with the knowledge of magic can practice it. Ordinary people cannot even witness a spell being cast. One day, a traveling sorcerer named Qifrey visits Coco’s village, setting off a chain of events that changes her life forever. Coco secretly watches Qifrey use magic and later attempts it herself, accidentally turning her mother into stone. Determined to save her, Coco becomes the apprentice of the very wizard whose craft she once tried to imitate.
The original manga is written and illustrated by Kamome Shirahama, serialized since July 2016 in Kodansha's Morning Two magazine. The series has been collected into fifteen volumes so far, with a global circulation exceeding 7.5 million copies.
Atelier of Witch Hat stands out for its breathtaking artwork, intricate worldbuilding, and heartfelt narrative. It blends elements of traditional fantasy and coming-of-age storytelling, making it appealing to fans of series like Made in Abyss and Little Witch Academia. The anime adaptation is expected to faithfully reproduce the manga’s whimsical atmosphere while bringing its detailed magical universe to life through animation.
