JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: 'Steel Ball Run' Anime Set to Continue This Year

On March 19, the beloved anime series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure made its highly anticipated return to streaming. The latest installment, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run (STEEL BALL RUN JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken), has debuted on Netflix with an impressive 47-minute first episode. While fans are eager for more, the streaming platform has yet to confirm the release date for the next episodes. However, Netflix recently announced that the continuation is slated to arrive later this year, building anticipation among fans around the world.

The anime is produced by David Production, the studio known for its work on previous parts of the JoJo series. The show is based on the manga created by the legendary artist Hirohiko Araki. The original Steel Ball Run manga was serialized between 2004 and 2011 and spans 24 volumes. Unlike earlier arcs, this storyline served as a reboot of the JoJo universe, offering both long-time fans and newcomers a fresh starting point.

Steel Ball Run unfolds in the United States in 1890. The story centers on Gyro Zeppeli, a master of mysterious steel ball techniques, and Johnny Joestar, a former jockey seeking redemption. Together, they participate in a grueling cross-country race with a staggering cash prize at stake. Along the way, the two uncover deeper secrets that intertwine with supernatural forces, moral challenges, and their own personal transformations. The narrative blends adventure, history, and mysticism, capturing the unique eccentricity that fans have come to expect from Araki’s storytelling.

Following the success of Steel Ball Run, Araki continued expanding the JoJo universe, releasing new parts of the saga in Japan’s Ultra Jump magazine. The manga’s eighth part recently concluded in full, while the ninth part began serialization in 2023, signaling that the creative energy behind the franchise shows no signs of slowing down.

For those new to the series, the previous adaptation, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, premiered on Netflix in three parts between 2021 and 2022, totaling 38 episodes. This global release helped cement JoJo's status as a cult favorite in anime culture worldwide. With Steel Ball Run now joining the lineup, fans are once again drawn into a world of imagination, style, and endlessly inventive storytelling.
