Today marks the release of the very first installment of the three-part anime movie series "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle". This trilogy is a planned adaptation of the remaining parts of the manga "Demon Slayer" crafted by Koyoharu Gotoge. In the lead-up to the new anime premiere, the original work's circulation count has been updated.
The worldwide circulation of the original manga has reached an impressive 220 million copies. The series' circulation in Japan has tallied up to 164 million copies, while overseas, it has garnered an additional 56 million copies. "Demon Slayer" has secured its place as the seventh manga with the largest circulation in history. However, among the series that have circulated over 200 million copies, Gotoge's work stands out as it contains the least volumes - only 23.
"Demon Slayer" was initially published in the Weekly Shonen Jump, a magazine by Shueisha Publishing, from 2016 to 2020.
The first anime movie of the series, "Demon Slayer: Mugen Train," released in 2020, remains the most successful domestic box office film with record-breaking revenue of 40.43 billion yen. "Mugen Train" also holds the record as the highest-grossing Japanese film in history, with worldwide box office revenue reaching $507.1 million.
The adaptation of Gotoge's work is being handled by the animation studio ufotable.
