After four years away, the anime Otome Game Sekai wa Mob ni Kibishii Sekai Desu (better known in English as Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs) is finally coming back. The much-anticipated second season is set to premiere in July, according to the show’s official website. The exact date hasn’t been revealed yet, but more details are expected soon.
The series is adapted from the popular light novels of the same name, which wrapped up after thirteen volumes. The first anime adaptation aired in April 2022 and ran for twelve episodes. Most of the main staff from season one are returning for the sequel under Studio ENGI, which also handled the first season. For readers who prefer manga, there’s an ongoing adaptation that continues to expand the story in another format.
The story follows a young man who’s forced by his younger sister to play an otome game—a romance game made for women—for two days straight. Running on no sleep, he dies by accident and wakes up inside the game’s world. In this setting, women hold power, and ordinary background characters, known as "mobs," live under strict and often unfair rules. The only ones with real privilege are the main love interests, a group of handsome nobles led by the prince. The protagonist, however, has one advantage no one else does: he already knows the game’s events and secrets.
With that knowledge, he sets out hoping for a quiet, simple life away from all the drama and politics. But his plans rarely go as expected, and he keeps getting dragged into the main storyline involving the royal family and the elite bachelors at the academy. Season two looks ready to build on the series’ mix of satire, romance, and adventure, continuing to explore what it means to survive inside a world that was never meant for him.
