'The Rising of the Shield Hero' Secures Fifth Season of Fantasy Anime

The anime The Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Yūsha no Nariagari) will not end after four seasons. A fifth season has officially been confirmed, as announced on the anime’s official website. However, the release date for the new season has not yet been revealed.

The series is based on a popular light novel in the fantasy genre. The first season, animated by Kinema Citrus, premiered in 2019, followed by a second season in 2022 co-produced with DR Movie. The third season arrived in 2024, while the fourth debuted in 2025. The show’s length has also varied: the first season ran for 25 episodes, while the following three seasons each had around 12–13 episodes.

The story follows Naofumi Iwatani, who is summoned alongside three others into a parallel world to become its prophesied heroes. While each of them is granted a legendary weapon, Naofumi receives only a shield. Lacking combat experience and charisma, he struggles to find allies. Betrayed by his only companion after just a few days, he is robbed, falsely accused of heinous crimes, and vilified by those in power. Isolated and burned.
