The anime adaptation of the romantic fantasy light novel series My Happy Marriage (Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon) is coming back with three special episodes. A new teaser confirms that all three will premiere on television on October 25. The episodes will also be available on Netflix that same day, so international viewers will not have to wait long to see the next chapter of Miyo and Kiyoka's story.
These new episodes are expected to spend more time on the relationship at the center of the series while returning to its familiar mix of romance, family conflict, supernatural powers, and historical fantasy. They are being released as special episodes rather than a complete new season, but they should still give viewers more time with the characters and take a closer look at the difficulties surrounding Miyo and Kiyoka's engagement.
Kinema Citrus will continue to handle the anime adaptation. The studio previously produced two television seasons and an original video animation episode based on the novels. The first season, which ran for 12 episodes, premiered in 2023. A 13-episode second season followed in 2025. The anime has attracted a strong following thanks to its emotional story, graceful visual style, and the careful way it shows trust growing between its two main characters.
My Happy Marriage follows Miyo Saimori, a young woman raised in a household shaped by a loveless arranged marriage. After her mother dies, Miyo's father brings his mistress and her daughter, Kaya, into the family home. Miyo is soon treated less like a member of the family and more like a servant, leaving her to endure years of neglect, cruelty, and emotional abuse.
Her situation becomes even worse when Kaya inherits the Saimori family's supernatural abilities while Miyo appears to have no gift of her own. Her relatives see her as useless and eventually send her away to marry Kiyoka Kudo, a powerful military captain known for his intimidating personality. Several prospective brides are rumored to have fled from him, so Miyo fears that the life waiting for her may be even more painful than the one she has just escaped.
Over time, however, Miyo learns that Kiyoka is not the cruel man the rumors made him out to be. Behind his cold, disciplined manner is someone who can be patient, fair, and deeply compassionate. Their bond develops at a measured pace, with much of the story centered on Miyo's recovery from trauma and her difficulty accepting that she has value. Meanwhile, details about her family history begin to surface, revealing that her supposed lack of supernatural power is much more complicated than it first appeared.
The franchise has also been adapted into a live-action film, another sign of how strongly its Cinderella-inspired romance and supernatural mystery have connected with audiences. Anyone new to the story can start with the first season on Netflix. Returning viewers, meanwhile, may want to revisit the existing OVA and the second season before all three special episodes arrive on October 25.
