This summer, the anime From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman comes back to streaming with its much-awaited second season, premiering on July 8. Ahead of the release, Universal shared a new promotional video packed with action, giving fans plenty to look forward to.
The fantasy series is once again produced by Hayabusa Film and Passione, based on the light novel of the same name. The first season aired from April to June 2025 with 12 episodes, drawing viewers in with its emotional storytelling, sharp choreography, and strong, character-driven plot.
Beryl, a modest middle-aged sword master, runs a small dojo in the countryside. His days of glory are long behind him, and he assumes his best years are over. What he doesn’t realize is that his skill with a sword remains unmatched, making him one of the most powerful swordsmen alive—even if he doesn’t see it himself.
His quiet life changes when he’s personally recommended for a position as a special instructor for the royal knights. Leaving his peaceful village, Beryl travels to the capital, where he crosses paths with old students, forms new friendships, and faces dangerous foes—all of which push him toward rediscovering who he truly is.
The new season will build on Beryl’s story with a broader world, tenser battles, and more layered character arcs. Fans can look forward to a mix of heartfelt mentorship, growth, and intense sword fights, all set in a fantasy world that balances adventure and emotion.
At the same time, other fantasy anime are also keeping audiences hooked. Witch Hat Atelier is on its way back with a second season, while Vistoria’s Wand and Sword is gearing up for its third. This growing trend of fantasy shows proves how much viewers continue to enjoy stories filled with magic, bravery, and transformation.
