Hakuhodo DY Music & Pictures has announced a new television anime titled Recommendation of High Schooler Iwamoto (Iwamoto-senpai no Suisen). The studio has also released the first teaser trailer, giving fans a first look at the series' mysterious and atmospheric world.
Set in the 1910s, the story follows Kodo Iwamoto, a diligent high school student connected to a military-run institution. Acting on military orders, he travels across Japan investigating reports of paranormal phenomena that defy scientific explanation. In one remote village, where locals whisper about "black snow" falling from the sky, Iwamoto meets a boy with strange, supernatural abilities. Believing at first that these powers are symptoms of an illness, the boy soon realizes - through Iwamoto's guidance - that his gift is something far more extraordinary. Iwamoto gives him a recommendation for admission to his school, setting both of them on a path into a broader and more dangerous world of mysteries.
As their journey unfolds, Kodo encounters numerous supernatural cases that test his reasoning, courage, and moral values. Each incident not only reveals more about the hidden powers that weave through society but also exposes the dark and experimental interests of the authorities he serves. Blending historical detail, suspense, and subtle commentary on the clash between science and the unknown, the anime promises an intense mix of mystery and drama.
The story is based on the manga created by Hiroshi Shiibashi, best known for his work on Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan. The manga has been serialized in Ultra Jump magazine since February 2021 and currently consists of 13 volumes. With its thoughtful storytelling, beautiful artwork, and eerie atmosphere, Recommendation of High Schooler Iwamoto has gained a loyal following - and the upcoming anime adaptation is one of the most anticipated supernatural series of the season.
