Monsters, known as "kaiju", have been appearing in Japan for many years. To combat them, an elite military unit called the "Defense Corps" was created. Its members risk their lives daily to protect civilians. Once a monster is killed, the "cleaners" step in to dispose of the remains. Kafka Hibino, a 32 year old cleaner, is dissatisfied with his job. Hibino's ambition was to join the "Defense Corps" and earn a living by protecting people from kaiju, but after several failed attempts, he gave up on his dream. However, when the ambitious Reno Ichikawa joins his cleaning team, Kafka starts to rekindle his dream. After a series of events, a kaiju parasite attacks Kafka, transforming him into a humanoid monster ("Kaiju No. 8"). With his newfound abilities, Kafka attempts to realize his lifelong dream one last time.
In other news, it was recently announced that the release of the manga "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" will resume in July.
