Final Chapter of 'Kaiju No. 8' Manga Released, Chronicling a Man's Transformation into a Monster

After five years in print, the list of completed manga series now includes "Kaiju No. 8". Today, the 129th and final chapter of the story appeared on the Shonen Jump+ app and website.

The manga, which was produced by Naoya Matsumoto, has been serialised since July 3, 2020. To date, it has been compiled into 15 volumes with a total circulation exceeding 18 million copies.

"Kaiju No. 8" is not only limited to manga, it also has anime adaptations and spin-offs such as light novels and two manga series. To add to the excitement, a video game is currently in development.

Production studio Production I.G has released the first season of the anime adaptation of "Kaiju No. 8", its film compilation, and the original episode "Hoshina's Day Off". The second season of the series, which recently released a new trailer, will begin airing on July 19.

Monsters, known as "kaiju", have been appearing in Japan for many years. To combat them, an elite military unit called the "Defense Corps" was created. Its members risk their lives daily to protect civilians. Once a monster is killed, the "cleaners" step in to dispose of the remains. Kafka Hibino, a 32 year old cleaner, is dissatisfied with his job. Hibino's ambition was to join the "Defense Corps" and earn a living by protecting people from kaiju, but after several failed attempts, he gave up on his dream. However, when the ambitious Reno Ichikawa joins his cleaning team, Kafka starts to rekindle his dream. After a series of events, a kaiju parasite attacks Kafka, transforming him into a humanoid monster ("Kaiju No. 8"). With his newfound abilities, Kafka attempts to realize his lifelong dream one last time.

In other news, it was recently announced that the release of the manga "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" will resume in July.
