This June, animation studio MAPPA marked its 15th anniversary with a special website featuring exclusive posters from some of its most beloved titles. One of the highlights was a new visual for the upcoming anime film Chainsaw Man: The Reze Story (Gekijōban Chainsaw Man Reze-hen), shining the spotlight on the enigmatic Reze.
The film continues the story of the hit series Chainsaw Man, adapted from the manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto. Released on September 19, 2025, it became a major box-office success in Japan, earning 10.81 billion yen (about $68 million) and securing a spot among the country’s 50 highest-grossing films. Globally, it pulled in around $162.6 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
The original manga, known for blending horror, action, and dark comedy, came to an end earlier this year. It began serialization in December 2018, running for 24 volumes and reaching over 35 million copies in circulation by January. Its memorable characters, unpredictable twists, and mix of violence and emotion have made it one of the standout manga series of recent years.
MAPPA is currently producing the second season of the Chainsaw Man anime, aiming to deliver even more intense action, emotional moments, and stunning visuals. With its growing global fanbase and strong record of adaptations, the studio’s future looks as energetic and ambitious as the stories it brings to the screen.
