'Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc' Climbs the Rankings at Japan’s Box Office

The box office rankings in Japan have shifted yet again as the anime film Chainsaw Man: Reze Story (Gekijōban Chainsaw Man Reze-hen) has earned around 10.81 billion yen (approximately $68.05 million). As a result, it rose to the 45th spot among the highest-grossing domestic films in Japan. The movie has remained in theaters since September 19, 2025, continuing to draw fans both old and new.

Reze Story serves as a cinematic continuation of the hit anime series Chainsaw Man, based on the manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto. The film adapts the beloved Reze arc, expanding on the intense, emotional relationship between Denji and Reze while exploring the darker themes that made the series a global phenomenon. The animation studio MAPPA, known for its high-quality production on titles like Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan: The Final Season, once again handled the project and is already at work on the show’s highly anticipated second season.

The original manga created by Fujimoto, famous for blending horror, action, and dark humor, concluded earlier this month after captivating readers for years. Since its debut in December 2018, the series has been collected into 23 volumes, with one final edition set to complete the story. The manga’s gritty aesthetic and morally complex characters have made it one of the most talked-about titles in modern manga culture, inspiring a passionate global fanbase and solidifying Chainsaw Man as a cornerstone of contemporary anime storytelling.

With the success of Reze Story, fans are eagerly anticipating what lies ahead for the franchise. From packed theaters in Tokyo to enthusiastic audiences around the world, Chainsaw Man continues to redefine what dark fantasy anime can achieve on the big screen, blending artistry, emotional depth, and unflinching intensity in a way that few other series can match.
