Kagurabachi Anime Officially Announced
The rumors were true — the manga Kagurabachi is being adapted into an anime. The announcement came with a teaser trailer that showed off intense sword fights and a dark, dramatic atmosphere. Fans of gritty fantasy stories have been waiting for this moment ever since the manga became a hit online.
The adaptation is in the works at the animation studio Cypic, formerly known as CygamesPictures. Tetsuya Takeuchi will direct the series. He’s known for his work on action-heavy shows like Izetta: The Last Witch and Sword Art Online: Alicization. The anime is set to premiere in April 2027, giving fans plenty of time to revisit the manga or experience it for the first time before the show’s release.
Created by Takeru Hokazono, Kagurabachi is a dark fantasy series that has been running in Weekly Shonen Jump since September 2023. Mixing samurai storytelling with supernatural elements, it quickly drew attention for its sharp fight choreography, layered world-building, and emotional storytelling. The series has already sold more than four million copies and continues to attract new readers with each chapter.
At the center of Kagurabachi is Chihiro, the son of a master blacksmith who forged six enchanted blades. Trained in both swordsmanship and craftsmanship, Chihiro’s world collapses when a group of sorcerers attacks his home, kills his father, and steals the legendary swords. Consumed by grief and revenge, he takes up the seventh enchanted blade — a weapon unlike any other — and begins his journey to hunt down the sorcerers and recover what was lost.
The upcoming anime aims to bring this story to life with detailed animation, strong emotional moments, and gripping action sequences. If the adaptation captures what makes the manga special, it may become one of the most talked-about dark fantasy releases of the decade.
