The production of the third season of the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren) has officially been confirmed. The announcement and the first details about the continuation were shared on the project’s official website following the conclusion of the second season. The third season is scheduled to premiere in October 2027 and will adapt the "Golden Lands" story arc from the original manga.
The manga is written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe. It has been serialized since April 2020 in Weekly Shonen Sunday and currently consists of 15 collected volumes. As of January, the total circulation of the series has surpassed 35 million copies, cementing its place among the most successful fantasy manga of the decade.
Beyond the main storyline, the franchise has expanded through several side stories and a light novel, offering readers deeper insight into the world and its magic. A special edition of the 14th manga volume even included a short 24-page novel titled Sora ni Hana wo Sakaseru Mahō (The Magic That Makes Flowers Bloom in the Sky), which explored Frieren’s gentler, more introspective side.
The anime adaptation is produced by the acclaimed studio Madhouse, known for its work on classics such as Death Note and One Punch Man. The first season premiered in September 2023 and ran for 28 episodes, bringing the story’s emotional and philosophical themes to a wider audience. The second season followed in January, building on the success of the first with 10 episodes that further expanded Frieren’s journey and character development.
The story begins after the end of an epic adventure, eighty years after the Demon King’s defeat at the hands of the hero Himmel, the priest Heiter, the dwarf warrior Eisen, and the elf mage Frieren. As an elf with a lifespan far beyond other races, Frieren witnesses her old comrades pass away one by one. Moved by a desire to understand humanity, emotions, and the meaning of life itself, she sets off once again on a journey - this time with her apprentice Fern - to discover what it truly means to live.
