Last December marked the debut of the first half of the final season of the hit anime series, Beastars. Even before its premiere on Netflix, it was known that the finale would be released in two parts. However, only recently has the streaming service announced that the second half of the final season will not be released until 2026. This news was shared by the What's on Netflix portal.
The very first season of Beastars was released in 2019, followed by the second season in 2021, both comprising 12 episodes each. The final season, as already stated, is split into two halves, each containing an equal number of episodes.
The anime, produced by the Orange studio (known for "Land of the Lustrous"), is based on a popular manga series. The original work by author Paru Itagaki was published in the Weekly Shonen Champion magazine. Its chapters have been compiled into 22 volumes. As of October 2021, the total circulation of the collections exceeded 7.5 million copies.
In 2018, the manga won several awards for Itagaki, including the prestigious Manga Taishō and Kodansha Manga Award.
The world of Beastars is populated by anthropomorphic animals where predators and herbivores strive to coexist peacefully. Some schools, such as Cherryton Academy, even promote integrated education between the two groups. This practice is accepted by both parties, despite the herbivores (particularly the smaller ones) viewing their carnivorous peers with a degree of apprehension. However, this seemingly trouble-free school life is shattered when an alpaca student named Tem is brutally killed and eaten on the school premises. This tragic event marks the beginning of a gripping and suspenseful tale that is sure to captivate viewers.
