Volume 14 of The Detective Is Already Dead (Tantei wa Mō, Shindeiru.) was released in Japan on October 23, 2026. In the new volume, author Nigozyu shared a major update about the series and said the main light novel story is expected to end with Volume 15. Anime News Network reported the news.
If those plans hold, Volume 15 will wrap up the main story after years of mysteries, dangerous missions, surprising reunions, and supernatural turns. A release date for the final volume has not yet been announced. Still, the early notice gives readers some time to prepare for the ending, catch up on any volumes they may have missed, or revisit earlier parts of the story before the final chapter arrives.
The franchise has grown far beyond the original light novels over the years. It now includes a spin-off series, a manga adaptation, and a television anime, giving fans several different ways to follow its mix of mystery, action, and supernatural drama.
The anime's second season premiered on October 7, 2026. ENGI, the studio that produced the first season in 2021, has returned to handle the new episodes. The timing makes this season especially notable, as the anime continues adapting the story just as the original light novel series moves closer to its planned conclusion.
Kimihiko Kimizuka is a high school student who once worked as the assistant to a brilliant detective named Siesta. They first met three years earlier aboard a hijacked airplane flying 10,000 meters above the ground. That unusual encounter became the start of a long run of dangerous investigations and adventures that took them around the world. For three years, they faced deadly enemies and mysteries that seemed impossible to solve, until their partnership came to a sudden end with Siesta's death.
Now on his own, Kimihiko tries to put the past behind him and return to a quiet, ordinary life. That plan quickly falls apart when he meets a girl who looks inexplicably similar to Siesta. Her appearance pulls him back into the mysteries he hoped to escape and forces him to face unanswered questions about his former partner, the circumstances of her death, and the cases they investigated together.
