Rimuru, high-octane action, and a new song tease the fantasy film 'That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Tears of the Blue Sea'

Next week, the feature-length anime That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Tears of the Blue Sea (Gekijō-ban Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken: Sōkai no Namida-hen) will premiere in Japanese theaters. This is the second movie in the popular That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime franchise and is set to hit cinemas on February 27. Ahead of its release, a new teaser trailer has been shared, showcasing the main characters, including Rimuru, alongside fast-paced action sequences. The teaser also features a preview of the theme song performed by STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION and ASH.

The film expands the universe of Rimuru Tempest, a modern office worker reincarnated into a fantasy world as a slime with extraordinary powers. The previous movie focused on large-scale battles and new allies, and expectations are high for this one to build further on Rimuru’s growing nation of monsters and his struggle to maintain peace among different races.

Later this year, fans will also get the long-awaited fourth season of the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime TV series. The season is scheduled to debut on April 3 and will be released in five parts, with the second part expected to air in the summer. This new arc promises deeper character development and a more complex political storyline, continuing Rimuru's evolution from humble slime to charismatic ruler.

Both the film and television series are based on the light novel series by writer Fuse, though the movie will present an entirely original story not found in the novels. The animation is produced by studio 8-Bit, which has been behind all previous anime adaptations in the franchise, known for its vibrant art style and smooth battle choreography.

The original web novel was first published online between 2013 and 2016 before being released in print starting in 2014. The series has since grown into a massive multimedia phenomenon with numerous spin-offs, manga adaptations, and video games, captivating fans around the world with its mix of humor, adventure, and world-building.

Across all formats, the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime franchise has sold over 56 million copies globally, securing its place among the most successful fantasy series of the decade.
