No New Season of 'Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian' Set for 2026 Release

The second season of the anime Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian (Tokidoki Bosotto Roshia-go de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san) has officially been postponed. Animation studio Doga Kobo announced that the sequel, initially planned for 2026, has been moved to 2027. According to the studio, this delay will allow the production team to further refine the animation quality and deliver a more polished result for fans eagerly awaiting the continuation.

The first season, based on a beloved light novel series, aired from July to September 2024 and featured 12 episodes. It was praised for its charming mix of romantic comedy and school life, along with its vibrant visual style. Viewers appreciated the dynamic between the main characters and the heartfelt humor that balanced cute moments with emotional depth.

Masachika is a demotivated high schooler known for his calm, almost indifferent attitude and his tendency to nap through class. Next to him sits Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou - Alya for short - a beautiful top student with silver hair and an elegant personality. Her father is from Russia, while her mother is Japanese. Although she appears composed, Alya sometimes flirts with Masachika in Russian, believing he can’t understand her. What she doesn’t know is that Masachika secretly speaks Russian himself, leading to plenty of amusing and tender moments as he quietly enjoys her secret comments.

The original light novel was written by Sunsunsun and illustrated by Momoco. As of now, 11 main volumes have been published, along with two additional collections of short stories. A manga adaptation is also ongoing, with eight volumes currently available. The manga expands on the world of the novels, offering new scenes and character perspectives that complement the main story.

As of August 2024, total circulation of the franchise exceeded 5 million copies worldwide, including digital sales, while the manga alone surpassed 1 million copies. The series has become one of the standout romantic comedies of recent years, capturing audiences with its heartfelt storytelling, lovable cast, and the unique secret shared between its two leads. With the second season now set for a later release, fans can look forward to an even more refined and emotionally engaging continuation of Alya and Masachika’s relationship.
