New Season of 'That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime' Sets Premiere Date

This year promises plenty of excitement for fans of the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime universe, as Rimuru’s adventures continue both in theaters and on streaming platforms.

Japan is preparing for the winter release of the second feature film in the series, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Tears of the Blue Sea (Gekijō-ban Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken: Sōkai no Namida-hen), which premieres on February 27. Early teasers hint at an emotional, ocean-themed story that expands Rimuru’s world with new characters and conflicts. Fans can expect the signature mix of epic battles, heartfelt moments, and world-building that made the franchise so beloved.

Then, in the spring, the fourth season of the anime series officially begins. According to the franchise’s official website, the new season will premiere on April 3. It will be divided into five parts, with the second part expected to air in the summer. While details remain under wraps, the next arc promises to push Rimuru’s leadership and alliances to their limits as tensions rise between nations.

Both the film and the series are based on the popular light novels by Fuse, although the upcoming movie features an original story written specifically for the screen. The novels have grown into a multimedia franchise that includes manga, anime, spin-offs, and games, captivating audiences around the world. The total circulation of the series has surpassed 56 million copies, making it one of the best-selling isekai titles to date.

The 8-Bit studio continues to handle animation production, maintaining the vibrant art style and dynamic combat sequences viewers have come to expect. Their consistent quality and attention to detail have been major contributors to the success of the anime adaptation.

The story follows Satoru Mikami, a 37-year-old office worker who is suddenly killed during a random attack. In his final moments, he hears a mysterious voice granting him new abilities. When he awakens, he finds himself reincarnated as a sentient slime in a fantasy world that operates much like a video game. After befriending a powerful dragon named Veldora, he takes on the name Rimuru Tempest and sets out to build a peaceful, thriving society where humans and monsters can coexist. His journey from humble beginnings to nation leader has captured the imagination of fans worldwide.

With a highly anticipated movie and a new anime season arriving soon, 2025 is shaping up to be an unforgettable year for Rimuru and the entire That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime community.
