Netflix has released a new poster for the much-anticipated second season of the anime Sakamoto Days. The artwork shows the calm but deadly former assassin Taro Sakamoto standing next to his student, Shin Asakura. The new season is scheduled to premiere in January 2027. You can see the official announcement and the poster on Netflix Tudum.
The anime is adapted from the popular manga by Yuto Suzuki, which has been serialized since November 2020 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. The series has become a major hit, now spanning 27 collected volumes. The manga recently entered its intense "final battle" arc, setting up what long-time fans expect to be an emotional and action-filled finale.
The first season of Sakamoto Days, produced by TMS Entertainment, aired in 2025 and ran for two parts of 11 episodes each. It earned praise for its sharp animation, sense of humor, and the way it blended fast-paced action with moments of everyday life. Earlier this year, Japanese theaters released a live-action adaptation of Sakamoto Days, highlighting just how big the franchise has become. The expanding world also includes a side-story manga called Sakamoto Holidays and a light novel that explores the pasts of several main characters.
Taro Sakamoto was once the most feared assassin in the world. Every criminal in Japan knew his name, and even other killers respected his abilities. But everything changed when he fell in love. He left the underworld, got married, became a father, and put on a few pounds. Now he runs a small convenience store with his family, happy to live quietly. Still, the shadows of his past are never far behind, and peace may not last forever for this retired hitman.
With its mix of intense fight scenes, warm family moments, and lighthearted humor, Sakamoto Days has earned a strong place among modern shonen favorites. Fans are looking forward to seeing what Season 2 has in store as Sakamoto continues juggling his ordinary daily life with the dangers that refuse to stay buried.
