Kaiju No. 8 Anime to Get a Complete Adaptation
The popular manga Kaiju No. 8 is officially getting a full-screen adaptation. Fans can look forward to the complete story being brought to life in anime form. The announcement also revealed that a new short anime titled "Narumi’s Workday" is in production. Both projects were teased in a single trailer released online.
The original manga was created by Naoya Matsumoto and was serialized on Shonen Jump+ from July 3, 2020, to July 18, 2024. After five successful years and 129 chapters, the series concluded, leaving behind a powerful story that captured millions of readers worldwide.
Kaiju No. 8 has been collected into sixteen volumes, and with the release of the final volume, the total print run surpassed 19 million copies. The franchise has grown significantly, spawning light novels, two side mangas, and even a video game titled Kaiju No. 8: The Game.
The anime adaptation is handled by Production I.G, the acclaimed studio behind numerous visually stunning and emotionally resonant series. The studio has already delivered two seasons of Kaiju No. 8, a compilation film covering the first season, and a special original episode called "Hoshina’s Day Off." This upcoming chapter promises an exciting continuation of the story and further exploration of the kaiju world.
Kaiju No. 8 takes place in a world where monstrous creatures known as "kaiju" have terrorized humanity for decades. To combat these threats, Japan’s Defense Force recruits elite soldiers who risk their lives to protect civilians. Among the cleanup crews working behind the scenes is 32-year-old Kafka Hibino, a man who once dreamed of joining the Defense Force but gave up after repeated failures. When a young recruit named Reno Ichikawa joins his cleaning team, Kafka’s long-buried dream resurfaces. Everything changes when Kafka is attacked by a mysterious parasitic kaiju and transforms into a humanoid monster himself. With new powers and a renewed determination, he sets out to fulfill the dream he once abandoned - to protect humanity from the creatures he now partly resembles.
Fans eagerly awaiting the new adaptation might also enjoy collecting unique anime-themed merchandise, such as high-quality anime mouse pads featuring detailed character art, to celebrate their favorite series in style.
