The beloved sports manga Haikyu!!, created by Haruichi Furudate, came to an end in 2020 after an eight-year run. Yet, the world of Haikyu continues to grow, delighting fans who can’t get enough of its spirited characters and high-energy volleyball matches. The franchise is set to welcome a brand new addition - a spin-off manga titled Sudate Hinagarasu.
The first chapter of the spin-off will debut in the January issue of Saikyo Jump magazine, scheduled for release on January 5. According to Anime News Network, this new manga focuses on Hinagarasu, the series mascot known for its playful parody of Shoyo Hinata, Haikyu’s energetic and determined protagonist. Fans can expect a lighthearted and humorous take on the world of Karasuno volleyball through the eyes of this quirky mascot.
The original Haikyu!! manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump by Shueisha from 2012 to 2020 and compiled into 45 volumes. Over the years, it gained immense popularity worldwide, praised for its dynamic storytelling, realistic athletic action, and heartfelt character arcs that inspired a generation of readers and athletes alike.
Beyond the manga, the Haikyu franchise spans several successful anime adaptations, side stories, and stage plays. Collectively, its publications have sold over 75 million copies, cementing Haikyu’s reputation as one of the most influential sports manga of the past decade. Fans continue to celebrate it for turning volleyball - a team sport not often explored in fiction - into a powerful, emotional narrative about perseverance, teamwork, and growth.
Looking ahead, the excitement is far from over. In 2027, Japanese theaters will release two new anime projects based on the manga - a feature film titled Haikyu!!: The Battle Against the Little Giant and a special episode called Haikyu!!: Where the Monsters Go. These new adaptations promise to rekindle the spirit of the original story and give fans a fresh reason to cheer for their favorite volleyball team once more.
