A new teaser and fresh details have been released for the fifth season of the anime The Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Yūsha no Nariagari). The series is once again being produced by Kinema Citrus, with the new season set to premiere in 2027. According to a new promotional video, the story is heading toward a dramatic confrontation that will bring together the main characters fans have followed since the beginning.
The anime is adapted from the well-known light novel series The Rising of the Shield Hero. The first season, also produced by Kinema Citrus, debuted in 2019 and quickly built a loyal international following for its unique approach to the isekai genre. The second season, co-produced with DR Movie, arrived in 2022, followed by the third and fourth seasons in 2024 and 2025. While each season has had a different episode count, every installment has added more layers to the world, its mythology, and the emotional journeys of its characters.
Naofumi Iwatani, an ordinary college student, is summoned with three others to a parallel world to serve as legendary heroes. Each receives a unique weapon, but Naofumi is given only a shield. Lacking combat experience and charisma, he’s soon betrayed and falsely accused of a serious crime. Abandoned and disgraced, Naofumi loses his trust in others but finds strength and purpose through anger and perseverance. His journey becomes one of rebuilding himself, earning redemption, and discovering what it truly means to be a hero.
Fans have a lot to look forward to in 2027. Alongside the return of The Rising of the Shield Hero, new seasons and adaptations such as Sakamoto Days and a fresh take on the classic Fist of the North Star are also on the way. Together, they reflect the growing interest in revisiting beloved manga stories and bringing them to new audiences.
